The first time I caught ear of this song months ago I thought it was a real beauty, but the other week it popped up again and just so happened to strike an internal chord. I couldn’t say how many times I’ve listened to Ruth B’s “Lost Boy” since then, but it’s a lot — quite often twice or thrice in a row, just because my soul isn’t quite done with it.
Billboard wrote a piece on this young woman’s out-of-nowhere hit, mentioning how she slowly put it together in chunks she published on Vine… until she finally got the whole song together and ended up with a record deal. It’s a really gorgeous melody: simple, touching, with basic piano chords that echo around her voice. Ruth B’s singing is subtle and never forced — the recording feels as if one is sharing a small, intimate show in the same room with her. “Lost Boy” is a really wonderful song, one you’ve likely heard already, but as it’s haunted my heart for the last couple of weeks, I’d be remiss if I didn’t share something about this fantastic little tune that carries a song of hope and pleasantness in a blanket of somber tone.
So… Happy Friday, everybody! Now, go ahead and enjoy a beautiful song — courtesy of your pal at MarkMushakian.com:
