Some Augusts are better than others.. and this is one of those superior ones :).
This past Tuesday was the monthly mini-build event at work. Normally, I work in front of the store for these events, managing the line of parents and kids waiting to go in, but a co-worker asked to trade shifts with me.. which meant he was there earlier, which is when the line-job starts, and I was moved inside to build with the kids. It’s been a long time since I’ve done that part of the event, and I tell ya… I’d forgotten just how much fun it really is :). When I’m out on the line, the focus tends to be more on the parents or the family as a whole (making conversation, guiding the line, etc.), but inside, showing kids how to put the little figure together, made it entirely about the kids – a prelude to why I so look forward to teaching. I’m not going to be doing any of the regular build events for a while (full evening of school on Tuesdays), so this was a perfect sendoff.
Yesterday, I got a message from good ol’ KB that she’d landed a regular job in video production, which is always very welcome news.. all the more when you’ve been without work for a while.
Today, I’m going to the first of two weddings this month: this first, the wedding of one Jessica McCrory (sister of my friend, James), and the next of one of the best guys I know, Mike Diaz. These two more than deserve it, and their respective significant others seem like similarly great folks… so, I’m very much looking forward to partying hard in celebration.
This coming Wednesday, I leave to Boston for a week, to visit with my old friend, Joe. The last time I saw him and his wife was when I was out there for their wedding 3 years ago, and now I’m heading out to see their <2-month-old baby girl, Natalie. I’ve been showing her pictures around like a proud uncle, and I really can’t wait to see all three of ’em (plus other friends and their babies, too!).
Finally, to top it all off, I start school the Monday after I come back from Boston. I’m taking 4 classes at the CSUF Irvine campus, and they are all major-focused… I really can’t wait to get started on this new journey, and I mean REALLY can’t wait!
So, kids, old friends, marriages, babies, and teaching… yep, this is definitely a Mark Mushakian kinda month :).
