Sing A(n Unimpressive) Song Of Praise

Bert one man band wearing instruments in Mary Poppins

Sunday morning, as I wrapped up my workout and began my walk home, I felt the desire to praise God.  I had no specific song to sing, and I’m not very grand at remembering most lyrics, so I picked up a rhythm with my feet, and borrowing the tune from “Amazing Grace” (which I’d listened to on my walk TO the park), I began to sing… making up the words as I went along.  I wasn’t just humming a tune and thinking appreciative thoughts – I was belting out a story about the wonder of God, both in terms of all that He is and all that He’s done for me.  I attempted to rhyme and consistently match the beats of the tune, though I failed more than I succeed ;).  I had a couple off good phrases, here and there, but the majority of my lyrical construction was 5-year-old-singing-on-the-toilet quality; it was also just as genuine and heartfelt.  I made myself laugh a couple of times, and also nearly brought myself to tears, and since we glorify God by using the natural talents He’s given us, then I don’t know of a better Mark Mushakian combo than silly laughter and tears 🙂
