While writing this, I realized that my last two posts have shared two similarities: they were spawned during late-night shifts at work and they focus on parts of the human anatomy. It’s all a big coincidence, though, I promise.
So, anyway… last night, while we were removing a big display box from the shelf, my manager started saying “Doing the butt.” After a clarification of what she was NOT saying (let’s not go there), she introduced us to the wonderful song and video I’ve presented below.. Experience Unlimited – “Da Butt”. You can read all about the history of “Da Butt”, however I’m more interested in just sharing the boogie with ya’ll :).
This song is a prime example of how much fun older music was. Good music is good, no matter when it’s made, but during the 90’s this good ol’ soul music from the black communities started taking an overall angrier and sexier turn, until it reached a point of “slapping hos” and “popping caps” to seek revenge on a name besmirched. This song, though, is about dancing and shakin’ your butt. Sure, it’s about sexual attraction, but it’s light-hearted and clean about it. All night long, and I’m sure for the rest of my life (it’s quickly entered my lexicon), my co-workers and I were echoing, “Doing da butt.” It’s fun and catchy, in every way.
…but don’t take MY word for it. Without further ado, may I present to you the best thing Spike Lee has ever been responsible for – “Da Butt!”
P.S. – Thanks for the introduction, Leigha.. my life will never be the same ;).
