February Fourteenth

For some of you, today is a great day, for others I know that it’s not.  Over the years it has become seemingly “hip” to bash Valentine’s Day as a greeting card holiday.  Yes, how unique and rebellious you are for saying that 😉  It’s a commercialized day, as is any other holiday, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be nice.

In my neighborhood there is a person who decorates their house every year for this holiday.  Their house is on a hill, so it can be viewed by many, and when the sun goes down they turn on a large heart-shaped lighting arrangement on the side of their house.  I can see it from my bedroom, and over the years it has been a harsh reminder on this particular day… but Valentine’s isn’t the only time they turn on.  I have also seen that heart lit up on Christmas or other times throughout the year – times when whoever owns that house feels like spreading a little love.  Last night it was raining (much to my delight), and I decided to take a shot of this lighted heart from my room before I went to bed.  The detail isn’t amazing through the rain spattered window, but it’s still there.  Love is a much bigger word than romance, and that’s something for us all to remember.

February Fourteenth Heart of Light

So, wherever you are in the romantic spectrum today – whether it’s at the top, the bottom, or meandering somewhere in the middle, as little as it may mean to you… I love you and I hope you have a wonderful February Fourteenth – whatever it might mean to you this year 🙂
