Well, it’s happened – Mark Mushakian has finally taken a tap dancing lesson. This isn’t going to be much of an entry, I just wanted to share my exuberance. There are six of us in the class, which is a good size for the room we’re in. I couldn’t imagine fitting many more bodies in there. The teacher had a really easy time remembering my name, too – I’m the only guy. It really was a blast, and if I had done this years ago, I never would’ve made it. I still wasn’t comfortable enough in my own skin to just have fun with it back then. Tonight I was screwing up from time to time (mostly because I’d forget the order of the steps and get out of sync for a moment), but I was laughing throughout it all – even entertained the teacher a few times when she caught me laughing at how off I’d gotten. This gal was just substituting our class, so hopefully the regular teacher is just as cool, but regardless… I can’t wait for next week! Keep an eye on the Tap Practice blog, because we learned a lot tonight and I’ll have quite a bit to practice. I may even do more than a video a week, but we’ll see. After tonight, though, I’m DEFINITELY going to start practicing every day, for at least half an hour.
The class is an hour long, and by the end I was breathing like I’d just run a marathon. Haha, even an hour later, I was still breathing a little heavier than normal. See, I had a bad time with asthma in junior high, and since then I’ve never done much aerobically. I work out now, but the 30 minute walk in the morning before I work out is nothing compared to an hour of dancing. Like I told Lu afterwards, ask me to lift anything in the room and I can do it… but moving for an hour straight is completely new to me. But anyways… I’ll cover all of that and my progress with the Tap Practice blog in the upcoming days. I’d just like to say thanks to Lu for telling me about this class and doing it with me. Like I said before, it’s a dream finally realized – and it was freakin’ great 😀
